Lee “Scratch” Perry is credited on thousands of relays, but not so many of them are his own solo work. Roast Fish Collie Weed & Corn Bread was an album he put out in 1978 – already very deep into his music career – and was produced by him at his Black Ark studio. More notably, this record is the first he put put that feature songs that are entirely sung by the great character himself. It is experimental in style, with plenty of great studio effects, layers of organic percussion, swaggering drums abstract lyrics. The record is said to have been rejected by Island Records, which angered Perry. – Juno
