2022, 12″ EP, Boogie Angst. Intrepid sonic explorers Kraak & Smaak return with another new album to add to their already fantastic catalogue. Scirocco is named after a warm desert wind and the sounds inside the record certainly have an exotic feel. There are psyched out funk rollers like the opener ‘The Cypress Garden’ and ‘Sunflower Suite’ before the title track featuring Fred Nevche pairs French spoken world with balmy chords and rolling grooves. ‘French Shuffle’ is a shorter instrumental funk workout and ‘Cut De Sac’ brings the lounge vibes. ‘Balzac’ closes with a sense of hope and optimism in the lush chords and meandering, shuffling grooves. – Juno
