2017’s Sensorimotor may be Lusine’s most inviting record yet and it marks Jeff McIlwain’s return to the Ghostly International family with another dose of meticulously crafted electronic pop. Across the album, McIlwain dips more into polished, emotionally rich sounds without wholly abandoning traces of his earlier IDM and downtempo roots. A more introspective mood runs throughout here, and it is driven by vocal contributions from McIlwain’s wife Sarah, alongside Vilja Larjosto and Benoît Pioulard, whose manipulated vocals lend the hushed, Burial-esque ‘Witness’ a genuinely haunting quality. Standout single ‘Just a Cloud’ is Lusine at his most emotionally resonant and accessible.
