Who knew an underappreciated Mixcloud series could spark a whole host of real vinyl compilations? DJ Notoya is the man responsible for these rather fancy things. But that’s only part of the story, because he’s been collecting since 2007, and his tastemakings are at least partly credited for spurring the global wamono music boom as a whole. Here on the latest Tokyo 1980s edition come eight tracks drawn from Victor’s 80s catalogue: Naomi Akimoto, Iyo Matsumoto and Yoko Oginome, plus Reiko Takahashi’s ‘Sunset Road’ – the one collectors will note specifically, because the original 7″ is now effectively unobtainable.
