Iconic and rule breaking British producer Herbert is happily reissuing a couple of his early electronic albums. They come from a time when he was slaying the club tunes, a real hero amongst DJs looking for his slinky and subversive late night grooves. Bodily Functions from 2001 has been described as “the perfect marriage of art and intelligence” because of its incredible artistic depth and studio craft. In honour of Herbert’s own working MO which bans sampling other artists, no drum machines, no synths, the record is packed with deft details such as vocals, double bass, guitar, clarinets, flugelhorns, trumpets and recordings of human bodies as well as plenty of jazz-dance-pop grooves. – Juno
