Bright Raven arrives on Emotions Electric with a record steeped in the widescreen futurism of Detroit techno, though there’s enough rhythmic looseness here to stop things becoming too functional. ‘Embers’ opens in a blur of fuzzy analogue synth pressure and skipping percussion, constantly teasing euphoric release without ever fully surrendering to it. The title track slips further inward through drifting pads and submerged melodic fog, before ‘Wind Song’ introduces brittle machine textures and strangely off-centre percussion that keeps the groove wobbling at odd angles. ‘Return To Life’ closes things beautifully, synth lines slowly collapsing back into the mix just as the track threatens proper lift-off.
