The latest drop on Slothboogie comes from Tiptoes, who has fast become a label regular with a razor-sharp instinct for samples and chunky, hard-grooving house music. ‘Record Business’ and ‘Call Me’ both carry the spirit of hip-hop sampling into house music in a manner which nods to legends like Armand Van Helden and Todd Terry – this is house laced with that tough, NYC attitude. ‘Food’ is a rolling affair with smouldering pads and sticky loops, while ‘Brothers & Sisters’ opts for a mellower sound pitched at the deepest of dances. ‘It’s Only Love’ finishes the record off with some low-tempo, disco-sampling funk stitched together by a truly passionate head. – Juno
