Description
2016 reissue, 12″ LP, Fiction/Elektra/Rhino Records.
Considered one of the now legendary band’s most significant sets, Seventeen Seconds delivered a string of distinctive “gloom-scapes” – think low-slung post-punk bass and tight drums overlaid with glistening guitar motifs, occasional synthesizer sounds and Robert Smith’s distinctive vocals – that fired the starting gun on what would become the goth-rock movement. The album proved popular at the time and provided the band with their first top 40 hit, ‘A Forest’; all these years on it still sounds like the perfect distillation of the Cure’s now trademark sound. – Juno
