2026, 12″ LP, Konichiwa Records/Young.

Swedish pop asset Robyn returns with her ninth studio LP: Sexistential – a heretofore uncaptured pun – and her first for the London alternative label Young, signaling a furtherance of her art-pop appeal (it arrives eight years on from when her experimental phase was first marked with Honey, which leant brooding, clubby, neon-noir). What made Robyn’s name was pop-candied, near lugubrious 2000s and 2010s dance-pop; here she doesn’t rehash the formula in as much as she asks of herself, “what still applies”? The answer is energetics without the former wistfulness: Sexistential bulges with a determined Spandex being-in-nothingness, “returning from the outer reaches and crashing back into yourself”, in Robyn’s own words, from the Sophie-fied singlehood of the title track to the fizzing, electroclash audio-snow of ‘Talk To Me’.
