Description
2026 reissue, 2×12 LP, Lo Recordings. Orange vinyl.
Composed after a visit to Yakushima, ‘The Boy And The Tree’ captures the stillness and scale of an ancient landscape that has been slowly but infinitely shaped by time. The album is inspired by the island’s ravines and the 7,000-year-old J?mon Sugi and reflects on nature’s quiet resilience, a theme echoed in Princess Mononoke. Across 12 interconnected pieces, Susumu Yokota drifts between eeriness, raga inflections and cavernous chanson that pull you in deep. The sequencing makes it play out like a lucid dream that is cinematic in scale and visually suggestive. A transportive work.
