Lisbon producer Goncalo Salgado has built a remarkably deep catalogue under the Lake Haze name, and VHS Memories is as sepia-tinged and emotive as you would imagine from the title. It offers eight tracks of post-rave melancholy that conjure the ghost of a dancefloor heard from a great distance – tape-worn, cold and intimate, nostalgia rendered in sound. From the wistful lo-fi slump of opener ‘Ashes Of Ecstasy’ through the downbeat meditation of the title cut to the ponderous mach of ‘Yuki-Onna’ and the aching electro wistfulness of closer ‘Ghostwave 8’ the album moves with lovelorn grace. A really moving listen from a synth wizard.
