Animalia expands its scope with the arrival of London-based producer Sub Basics, who debuts a new series on the label. He’s a master of refined minimal UK bass and crafts a release here where prismatic percussion, rolling subs and psychedelic grooves interlock with tech-house inflexions. The result is immersive but sharply functional – a record equally suited to smoky late-night basements or sunlit outdoor floors while also reflecting both autumn’s darker descent and spring’s renewal in Australia. The patient, pulse-slowing dub of ‘Signal’ is a favourite for us, but the pressured polyrhythms of ‘Radius’ also sound superb when cranked up loud.
