From increasing whispers to a pronounced scream, life for Geese has got a lot louder in 2025. The New York band are on an unstoppable journey to becoming the biggest New York indie band since The Strokes and nothing, it seems, will get in their way. The reason for the wildfire spread of hype is down in part to their enthralling live shows, but it’s propelled massively off the strength of this third studio album of theirs. The band brought in hip-hop megastar Kenneth Blume (aka Kenny Beats) as a producer (borrowing the idea from their label mates IDLES who recorded TANGK with him). They weren’t short on talent on their third album – they had James Ford – but there’s an adventurousness to the sound here that makes it their most idiosyncratic to date. It’s perhaps against the odds that this more leftfield chapter has become their most successful, but it’s encouraging to know that innovation and originality doesn’t mean commercial failure.
