Chicago indie duo Water From Your Eyes – comprising Nate Amos and Rachel Brown – unveil the follow up to their 2023 Matador debut Everyone’s Crushed. The sound feels less electronic than their previous stuff and an overall step up as they wrote the songs in Nate’s bedroom around “the dynamics of a full-blooded live group.” The single ‘Life Signs’ is a visceral cut that is easily transposable to a four-piece live dynamic. Inspired by nu metal, there’s a menacing, cyclical guitar riff underpinning Rachel Brown’s Beck-esque vocal. Whilst the verse sees her quite nonchalant, she switches to a soaring falsetto in the chorus that raises the intensity excellently. That they’ve thought of the entertainment of the live show really works for them and makes them a hotter proposition than ever.
