Drexciya’s Journey Of The Deep Sea Dweller IV continues Clone Records’ essential LP reissue series, swimming the mythic underwater world dreamt ashore by the late James Stinson and Gerald Donald. These 90s recordings – first issued in this compilation form in 2013 – were a counterpoint to their technofuturism: murky, subaqueous, and steeped in lore of a certain cosmic-oceanic Black Atlantis. This fourth instalment, remastered from the original tapes, reshuffles key works like ‘Black Sea’ and ‘Unknown Aquazone’, finding currency in the friction between between corrosion and clarity. The sleeve, designed by US artist Ellen Gallagher, draws from her Watery Ecstatic series; biological forms inked in microscopic detail, echoing Drexciya’s vision of life thriving in the deep.
