28 years The Strokes have been together. They have been prolific outside of their main band with various side projects so it’s a case of distance making the heart grow fonder with The Strokes. There hasn’t been an album for six years and they are back with a Rick Rubin produced record that they recorded in tropical Costa Rica, somewhere that guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. described in an interview with The Shaky Experience podcast as “the most fantastical environment I have ever been able to record in.” The lead single ‘Going Shopping’ is a jangly, laid back affair with dreamy imagery and tasteful interwoven melodies and effects. It bodes well for the future if the New York five-piece are still able to pull songs this transcendent out of the air.
