2026 repress, 12″ LP, Wonderwheel Recordings.
Indonesian instrumental outfit Babon was formed by high school friends turned Melbourne University students. They channel years of study in agroforestry and sustainability into their debut album, a narrative-driven meditation on environmental collapse. They deconstruct traditional keroncong and dangdut rhythms picked up during a visit to Solo’s historic Lokananta studio and mash them together with spaghetti-western scoring, Latin grooves, Afro-funk and Middle Eastern touches. The album’s sole vocal track, ‘Pesan dari Gurun,’ features Indonesian indie-folk figure Frau and brings a blissful tone to the swooning horns. A rich listen with a global outlook.
