The great Atom TM aka German mainstay Uwe Schmidt takes a four-track plunge into stripped-back, industrial techno that grips you from the first beat here, Schmidt doesn’t ever mess around and again on this EP every kick, clang and synthetic hum feels deliberate and precise, as well as being slightly unsettling, like machinery coming alive. It’s cold but strangely seductive and a reminder that sometimes minimalism can hit harder than chaos. ‘Exotrack I’ builds tension with bulky drums and echoing bass hits, ‘Exotrack II’ keeps the pressure on with intricately woven drums and bass and ‘Exotrack III’ brings ice cold suspense before the gloomy, foreboding closer.
