Sonic Groove’s new Old Gold imprint announces itself with exactly the right kind of dig – two CAT 1 tracks from 1996 and 97 that have often fetched three figures on the secondhand market, but are now finally accessible without the auction anxiety. ‘Revolution’ and ‘Axion’ originally surfaced on Germany’s Overdrive label and promptly disappeared into scarcity. Adam X’s intervention is surgical rather than heavy-handed as he layers new kicks beneath both tracks to meet modern sound system expectations while leaving the original arrangements completely untouched. Deep acid never sounded so good so don’t snooze on these.
